LIGHT AND COZY
Woolfolk's Luft bulky weight line is deceptively light for such a fluffy yarn. Instead of being plied like normal yarn, this cotton-merino blend is made from a chainette tube of organic Pima cotton, filled with Ultimate Merino fleece. Hence the name, Luft, which is German for "air." The result is a full cardigan that hangs like a tee, hugging you in the softest embrace. This knit is Hanna Maciejewska's beautiful Miko Cardigan, knit up with Luft colorway 18, a beautiful rustic green. You can pick up Hanna's pattern and get the Luft 18 colorway at the links below. Or explore more colors of Luft below the project photos. (BCKG has no formal affiliation with Hanna Maciejewska, but we love her patterns and think you might too.)
Luft — German for "air" — is a bulky, lightweight miracle: a chainette tube of organic Pima cotton, filled with Ultimate Merino fleece instead of just plied like a normal yarn. That construction is what gives it the trick: all the volume and warmth of a bulky wool, at a fraction of the weight, with a soft halo of fluff that reads almost like mohair without any of the itch or fuss. Season-spanning, durable, and genuinely a pleasure to work with — cardigans, hats, and mittens all knit up fast and hold their shape well.
