Polka Dot Sheep
Aimee Alexander opened the Knit 'n Needle Yarn Shoppe in Whitefish, Montana back in 2003, and Polka Dot Sheep hand-dyed yarns followed in 2010. In 2020, the shop and dye studio finally moved under one roof, and it's been welcoming knitters from Whitefish and far beyond ever since.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable knitters themselves, and the shop is built around that community feel — there's always an open seat at the table for anyone who wants to knit, chat, or just steal some inspiration from whatever project happens to be sitting near the ball winder. Shelves are stocked with Polka Dot Sheep's own hand-dyed yarns alongside a rotating selection from other makers, plus a solid range of needles including Addi Turbos and Addi Lace.
Tucked against the mountains at the north end of the Flathead Valley, Whitefish is Glacier National Park's neighbor and Big Mountain's hometown — reason enough to visit even before you factor in the yarn. Come in, call, or click your way over; the staff's happy to help with yarn, patterns, or even local ski tips.
