Manos del Uruguay started in 1968 with one question: how to improve life for Uruguay's rural women. The answer was handcraft — inherited skills, local wool — built into a non-profit organized across 12 cooperatives in small countryside villages. The artisans own the company, profits get shared or reinvested, and every skein carries a tag with the maker's signature and village, a reminder that a real woman and a real story sit behind it. Manos has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009, and their high standards have earned collaborations with brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Gabriela Hearst.
All Manos yarns are hand-dyed in small batches over wood-heated kettles, which is exactly why the colors run bright, wild, and full of nuance — no two skeins alike, each one a snapshot of a particular moment. Serpentina and Clásica Wool go a step further, hand-spun by Manos artisans themselves, keeping traditional skills alive alongside the dye work. Proudly Uruguayan through and through, honoring the country's traditions in wool, leather, wood, and horn.
